Rockland Community College Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month Activities Showcasing Latino Students, Faculty, and Staff

ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. (September 28, 2020) – Rockland Community College will host a variety of activities and virtual programs to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. From highlighting famous Hispanic sports figures to a trivia contest about Spanish entertainers to classes on Dominican-style cooking, RCC is offering many options that will appeal to students and their families, faculty, staff and the community.

“In light of our recent five-year, $2.9 million grant through the Title V: Developing Hispanic-Serving Institutions program—the second time the College has received the prestigious grant—our month-long celebration takes on a deeper meaning,” says Dr. Michael Baston, President of Rockland Community College. “It is a recognition of the hard work of our faculty, staff and students in transitioning our institution to a Guided Pathways model to ensure success for our diverse population—including low-income, first generation, and minority/Hispanic students.”

The grant offers an initial $550,086 to jumpstart Real World Ready! Strengthening Career Pathways to Empower Workforce Ready Students, a new initiative designed to close gaps in workforce development in Rockland County, which addresses student-related issues with degree completion barriers, challenges in securing employment after degree completion and improvements needed for experiential learning activities.
