Rockland Community College is excited to announce ¡Sí Se Puede!, our HSI Summer Academy that is designed for incoming first-year Hispanic/Latinx students. During the program, participants will take non-credit-bearing introductory courses in Mathematics in order to prepare them for college-level work. Participants will attend weekly skill-building workshops, participate in team-building exercises, and engage in experiential learning. Cultural events such as a visit to a museum located at the College will also be part of the programming.
The goal of the program is to provide an engaging learning environment that offers a robust student experience, eases the transition to college, and helps students feel comfortable, capable, and confident as they embark on their academic journey.
The Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) Summer Academy: ¡Sí Se Puede! will run from Monday through Friday, August 15 – 26, 2022 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Student Union, Room 3214.

The deadline to register is July 15, 2022. Space is limited, only 50 seats available.
Program Outcomes
Upon the successful completion of the Summer Academy, students will be able to:
- Cultivate academic skills through problem-solving, critical thinking, and study habits, as well as social skills needed to be successful in a college environment
- Leverage campus resources and support services to enhance their academic experience
- Establish academic, personal, and career goals with a focus on financial literacy
- Build a sense of belonging by engaging with campus leaders and fellow participants
Summer Academy Requirements
In-person participation in the Summer Academy is required. Students must attend the two-week program that runs from Monday through Friday, August 15 – 26, 2022. Please visit the COVID-19 What-to-Know page to review student-related requirements.
RCC will provide math tutors during the program. Students will be provided with the tutor schedule closer to the program start date.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the Summer Academy, students MUST be first-year Hispanic/Latinx students and enrolled at RCC for Fall 2022.

The morning R.E.A.L. is designed to welcome participants and warm up conversations among their peers. Each R.E.A.L. will introduce the topic of the day. Through activities, games, and various other events, students will work together to have ownership of the outcome. Get Ready to Engage and Activate your Learning through these fun activities.
The Math Module is designed to prepare students for Fall enrollment in college-level mathematics. The curriculum will review foundational math concepts, develop quantitative reasoning and algebra skills, and prepare students for the Accuplacer exam. Through a supportive and engaging environment, students will receive academic assistance to help build their confidence and accelerate degree completion.
Students will be introduced to themes, concepts, and the development of a skill related to a specific topic. Through hands-on learning, discussion/debate, and presentation on a given topic, students will walk away with academic and social skills, as well as knowledge of campus resources, financial literacy, and support services.
Post-Academy Guidance
Upon completion of the HSI Summer Academy, students will participate in post-academy work consisting of workshops and/or activities, receive guidance and support throughout their college journey, and receive financial incentives to assist towards their academic achievement.
