Unity in Community – Random Acts of Kindness Day

October 28

Random Acts of Kindness Day is the new holiday that was created for the Unity in Community festival in Spring 2021. This was voted as one of two new holidays to be celebrated at RCC for this academic year.

Kindness in service to others raises one’s frequency and bolsters the karmic field, while transmitting positive energy that reverberates through the ether and spreads throughout the world and the universe. By remaining in service to others and spreading kindness, even in seemingly small ways, has a profound impact on everything and everyone. The simplest random act of kindness has the power to change the world.

Inspired by and in honor of former student, Melissa Dimataris, who passed away on October 21, 2013 after battling leukemia. Her kind and generous spirit has changed the lives of students and faculty alike. With the creation of a scholarship in Melissa’s name and annual performances celebrating talent and creativity, we have already seen how ‘little’ kindnesses can be transformative for individuals and for communities…even when they seem insignificant to the person or people transmitting them.

How do we honor this day?

We celebrate this day by sharing photos of acts of kindness done by all of us. Our RCC community, as well as the community around us, is welcome to upload any recent images they have of sharing their love and support. Some examples of snapshots are that of caregiving, charity work, sharing a meal, fostering children/animals and so on.

Please upload your photo(s) using this submission form by October 29, 2021 and include a caption describing the person/scene. Photos will be shared with the community shortly thereafter. RCC thanks you for your generosity of spirit and sharing of your selfless love and light!

If you do not have a SUNY Rockland email or Gmail account, please email your photo submission and caption to [email protected]
