RCC Celebrates Sixth Annual Unity in Community Festival

Suffern, NY — Rockland Community College is hosting the sixth annual Unity in Community: Rising as One Festival 2026. Running now through May 5, the festival features a range of events and activities that highlight and honor the collaboration, passion, and compassion that strengthen RCC’s community spirit.

“I am honored to witness the incredible support and enthusiasm from our RCC community,” said Professor Patricia Maloney-Titland, Unity In Community Founder & Co-Chair and Dean of the School of Arts, Education, Humanities, and Social Sciences.

She added, “This event would not be possible without the dedication and hard work of the organizing committee, whose tireless efforts have brought our vision to life. Together, we look forward to inspiring connections and fostering a sense of belonging for all who attend.”

The concept of Unity in Community was born in 2021 through the vision of Professor Maloney-Titland. Today, the college upholds her vision, fostering a celebration that brings together colleagues and students to share empowering stories and journeys, shaping and uniting our proud legacy. Unity in Community includes theatrical performances, food festivals, discussions of historical events, and more. Events and activities will also highlight the creativity of RCC students, faculty, staff, and the community.

“The Unity in Community Festival exemplifies Rockland Community College’s spirit,” said Dr. William Mullaney, President of Rockland Community College. “We celebrate our achievements and honor all members of the RCC community:  students, faculty, staff, and partners. Our unity and shared commitment are our greatest strengths. Together, we foster an inclusive and vibrant campus community.”

This year’s event kicked off with the 17th Annual Early Childhood Transitions Conference, which brought together over 50 local educators to share strategies for helping young children move between early education settings, while highlighting RCC’s campus and Teacher Education classroom.

The second event of the day, Drug and Mental Health Awareness Day, invited Rockland County high school students to actively participate in programs addressing public health issues affecting young adults. Through expert-led sessions, students engage with topics including substance use, marijuana legalization, and underage drinking.

The festival concludes with an Employee Recognition Barbecue dedicated to celebrating employees’ commitment and achievements. Employees celebrating milestone service anniversaries in 2025, from 10 to 40 years in five-year increments, will be recognized. SUNY Chancellor’s Award winners will also be honored for their achievements and contributions to the College. This afternoon of celebration brings the community together to mark the festival’s success.
