Events and Activities Run from April 23 to May 2
ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. (April 19, 2020) – Rockland Community College has organized a series of Unity in Community: Rising as One events and activities that highlight and honor the collaboration, passion and compassion that has boosted RCC’s community spirit over the past year. The idea for Unity in Community was conceptualized by RCC’s Patricia Maloney-Titland, Distinguished Professor and Program Director of Visual and Performing Arts, Co-Founder and Co-Artistic Director of the Rockland Shakespeare Company, and a SUNY Distinguished Service Professor. All events are free and open to the public.
“RCC is proud to celebrate and embrace each other during these challenging times by coming together with the upcoming events and activities,” says RCC President Dr. Michael A. Baston. “When we celebrate the uniqueness of each of us we honor the gifts that we have been given and make our community stronger.”
Events include a Shakespearean open mic and review party moderated by Christopher Plummer, Co-Founder/Artistic Director of the of the Rockland Shakespeare Company and Director of the Cultural Arts Theatre. It will feature the premiere of Monologue Madness! performed by members of the Rockland Shakespeare Company.
Talent Rising: Celebration of Unity through Talent will highlight the artistic abilities of the RCC community while Resilience Rising: One Year Later explores where the community is now and where it is going. There will also be a discussion about HUMAN, a 2015 documentary film series by Yann Athus-Bertrand, who collected personal stories from more than 2,000 people across 60 countries. Cooking demonstrations, book talks, musical tributes and more ensure that there will be an activity for everyone to enjoy.
