Specialty Sports Camp

For children who love sports and want to grow their skills and knowledge of the games, RCC offers 4 two-week specialty sports camps that will teach sportsmanship, dedication, leadership and other skills. This camp will provide excellent instruction in a positive learning environment. Campers will learn the basic fundamentals, and apply those skills and strategies.

Basketball and Soccer are open to boys and girls while Girls Volleyball is open only to girls.

Baseball

Dates: June 27 – July 8

Our Baseball camp provides fun, safe, outdoor and organized baseball with some of the best players in the area! Campers receive small group instruction with experienced, energetic and responsible coaching staff, and varied weekly programs to improve skills, confidence and love of the game. Drills and game play every day! Age and skill-appropriate age divisions with weekly camper evaluations.

The RCC Baseball Camp is designed to teach the basic fundamentals of hitting, fielding, base running, catching and pitching, as well as advanced skills and techniques. This two-week camp is designed for the beginner, intermediate and advanced baseball player.

All campers are responsible for bringing their own glove, bat, cleats, sneakers, water bottle and hat.

  • 9:00am – 9:30am Drop off, stretching & running
  • 9:30am – 11:00am Throwing, defensive skills
    • Day 1 – Infield
    • Day 2 – Outfield
    • Day 3 – Pitching / Catching
    • Day 4 – Situations
    • Day 5 – Reinforcement & situations
  • 11:00am – 11:45am  Defensive competition (throwing accuracy, “error”, etc.)
  • 11:45am – 12:15pm Baserunning
  • 12:15pm – 1:15pm Lunch
  • 1:15pm – 2:30pm Offensive skills (tee work, soft toss & batting practice)
  • 2:30pm – 4:00pm Games or simulated games based on skill level

Chris Calvario
Chris Calvario

Chris Calvario is a member of the Baseball Team here at Rockland Community College. A 2021 graduate of Albertus Magnus, Chris has assisted in coaching his father’s little league baseball team.

Girls Volleyball

Dates: June 27 – July 8

Under the direction of RCC’s Women’s Volleyball Coach, athletes will receive individual and group instruction on passing, setting, serving, spiking and blocking. Campers will compete in scrimmages throughout the week.

  • 1:00pm – 2:30pm  Afternoon stations (offensive group stations-hitting, serving, etc.)
  • 2:30pm – 3:15pm Offensive games
  • 3:15pm – 4:00pm Whole group game like play

Sarah Haryward, Volleyball Coach
Sara Hayward

Sara Hayward is the Head Women’s Volleyball Coach at Rockland Community College. In her first season, she coached the team to their first NJCAA National Tournament appearance, and the team won the Mid-Hudson Conference and Northeast District B championships. She is also an assistant coach for a U17 girls volleyball team, and the Head Varsity Softball Coach at Suffern High School.

Basketball

Dates: July 11 – July 22

Our Basketball camp will offer specialized skill instruction and game play. Participants will be instructed on how to improve shooting, dribbling, rebounding, individual defense, team defense, individual offensive moves, team offense and so much more.

Brian Sondey
Brian Sondey

Brian Sondey is the Head Men’s Basketball Coach here at Rockland Community College. Brian has coached at the college level since 2010 at local colleges in all different divisions. Brian had also directed the Concordia College Basketball Camp as well as his own camp called Sondey Hoops. Brian’s camp experience ranges from 5 year old to high school level. He believes that fundamentals combined with game and contest play will create a great week of instruction for any camper.

Soccer

Dates: July 25 – August 5

Specialized instruction, skill work and games will be the focus. Participants will be instructed on how to improve their skills in dribbling, receiving, shooting, passing, defending, and learn offensive and defensive concepts. Players who are interested will also be given the opportunity to learn how to play goalie and/or take penalty kicks.

Soccer Specialty Sports Camp

  • 9:00am – 9:30am Group warm-ups
  • 9:30am – 11:00am  Individual techniques, skill work, fast foot work, training, shooting & finishing, goalkeepers specialized training
  • 11:00am – 12:00pm Small sided games / Futsal
  • 12:00pm – 1:00pm Lunch
  • 1:15pm – 2:00pm Soccer tennis
  • 2:00pm – 3:00pm Fitness with ball / Specific needs (as identified by player, parents or the player’s coach)
  • 3:00pm – 4:00pm Full-sided games

Danny Samimi

Danny Samimi is the Head Men’s Soccer coach here at Rockland Community College. He is a USSF National A licensed coach, the highest license for youth development, and a member of the RCC Sports Hall of Fame.
