The Thomas J. Moran – Crossroads Ceili

Location: Cultural Arts Theatre
Admission: $10

In celebration of Irish Heritage Month, the Visual and Performing Arts present the annual Crossroads Ceili. This event will feature performances in the form of song and dance, celebrating Irish Culture! There may even be some audience participation requested! Featured performers will be the Contemporary Music Ensemble, playing songs by contemporary Irish artists. Join us as we appreciate Irish Culture through music!
All proceeds go to Concern Worldwide US, which is an international humanitarian organization working with the world’s most vulnerable people in the hardest to reach places.

In addition, Celeste Sherry will be demonstrating the Irish domestic art of fiber spinning. She dresses as a middle-class woman of the late 1700s in accurately researched garments as she describes and demonstrates the historical development of Irish wool & flax (linen) spinning, from Neolithic times to the present, on the spinning wheel & drop spindles. The 1886 spinning wheel she uses is an upright double-drive wheel, sometimes known as an “Irish Castle wheel.” Questions during her demonstration are encouraged and welcomed, and attendees may try their own hand at spinning wool on a drop spindle.
Light refreshments will be served following the event.
