Her Service, Her Story: Understanding & Supporting Women Veterans Across SUNY

March 27 @ 1:00 pm - 2:15 pm EDT

Location: Online ( Register via Zoom )

Women veterans represent an often under-recognized population within higher education. This SUNY-wide webinar will create space to share their stories while exploring how campuses can strengthen support, visibility, and belonging for women who have served.

Through a moderated panel featuring women veterans from across SUNY, participants will gain insight into how military service shapes academic, professional, and personal experiences. Drawing on national data, SUNY research, and firsthand accounts, panelists will discuss identity, transition, and the challenges of navigating benefits, campus culture, and veteran spaces where women may feel unseen.

Participants will also leave with practical strategies to enhance campus support, including inclusive practices, informed supervision, meaningful recognition of military experience, and stronger connections to SUNY, VA, and community resources.

By the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Better understand how military service shapes women veterans’ experiences within SUNY
  • Recognize how invisibility and misidentification impact women veterans’ sense of belonging
  • Identify common academic, workplace, and systemic challenges across SUNY campuses
  • Learn concrete actions faculty and staff can take to improve support and retention
  • Become familiar with SUNY-relevant VA and community resources for women veterans

This webinar is hosted by the SUNY Center for Professional Development, which provides professional development opportunities for academic, technical, and leadership communities across SUNY.

We hope you will join us for this important conversation.
