Protecting the Environment in the Empire State: 1960s & 1970s

New York State has a long history of women’s activism to improve its cities as well as preserve landscape. This slide-illustrated lecture highlights several key moments in the environmental movement in NYS in the 1960s and 1970s.

Learn about the achievements of activists like Niagara County’s Lois Gibbs and Brooklyn’s Sister Francis Kress (nicknamed The Nun in the Hazmat Suit) who raised awareness about Love Canal, Newtown Creek, and other hazardous sites.
