9th Annual Start by Believing Presentation

April 2 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm EDT

Committee Against Sexual Assault & Relationship Violence (CASARV), the Center for Safety and Change and Legal Studies presents “Good Policing Starts by Believing Sexual Assault Victims”

Location: Ellipse (Technology Center, Room 8180)

The first Wednesday in April has been globally designated as “Start by Believing” day. When someone tells you that they have been sexually assaulted your reaction makes a difference. Start by believing them.

The presentation will review how good police officers always start their investigation of a sexual assault case by believing the victim.

Robert Van Cura is currently Undersheriff with the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office. Previously he served as Chief of Police for the South Nyack – Grandview Police Department, where he was employed for 30 years. He has investigated numerous sexual assault cases. He is the epitome of good policing.
