(July 17, 2023) – Rockland Community College (RCC) is proud to announce that Patricia Maloney-Titland, Distinguished Professor and Program Director for Visual and Performing Arts, was awarded the prestigious SUNY Distinguished Service Professorship. This outstanding achievement has been recognized by the State University of New York (SUNY) system in a special ceremony that was held on June 20, 2023, for all awardees who were unable to be publicly recognized from 2019 to 2023.

The SUNY Distinguished Professorship is the highest rank bestowed by the State University of New York, and it is a significant accomplishment. To commemorate the achievements of all recent Distinguished Professors, SUNY arranged a ceremony in Albany, which was attended by RCC faculty, colleagues, and students.

“Professor Maloney-Titland’s SUNY Distinguished Service Professorship serves as a testament to her outstanding dedication and expertise, and to her profound impact on her students and the RCC community,” said Dr. Katherine Lynch, Officer in Charge of Academic Affairs at Rockland Community College. “As a distinguished educator, accomplished director, and mentor, she has been a guiding light for countless students, nurturing their talents and igniting their passion for the arts.”

The ceremony served as an opportunity to support and honor Professor Maloney-Titland for her remarkable achievement, Chancellor John B. King highlighted her exceptional contributions during his speech, further emphasizing the significance of her accomplishments.

“I am beyond honored by Chancellor John King’s lovely and kind remarks regarding my work in the arts at RCC. I have been an arts educator for most of my life, passionately believing that arts in education transforms lives by engaging students to explore and create their own unique stories,” said Professor Maloney-Titland. “RCC is a brilliant beacon whose mission is to not only educate, but also uplift, guide, and celebrate the stories of each student. This honor recognizes the leadership, vision, and innovation of all the exceptional educators, mentors, students, colleagues, family, and friends, who have inspired me throughout my career.”
