Prepare to meet your advisor

Review Your program of study Requirements

You can read about your program of study at sunyrockland.edu/degrees. You can also go over the degree requirements of your program of study by visiting Self-Service in Banner. You can review course descriptions by visiting the course catalog. By reviewing all of this before your session, you will know what questions to ask during the appointment.

Take Notes

Be sure to have your laptop/tablet or pen and paper available during your advising session. You’re going to want to take plenty of notes and ask lots of questions. It’s also a good idea to have your calendar open so you can add important dates and deadlines.

Ask the Right Questions

In order to prepare the right questions, you need to know exactly what your Student Success Advisor can do for you. Your advisor can help you with academic planning, course selection, career path and transfer services, campus support information and preparation for graduation.
