Rockland Receives Top Diversity Honor

Rockland Community College has been selected as a 2021 Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award winner from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine, the nation’s oldest and largest diversity-focused publication in higher education. This national honor recognizes US colleges and universities that demonstrate an outstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion. RCC will be featured, along with 100 other recipients, in the November 2021 issue of INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine. This is the first time RCC has been named as a HEED Award recipient.

RCC Visual and Performing Arts Students Receive Lightsaber SAFD Credentials

Each semester, the RCC Visual and Performing Arts Department holds Skills Proficiency Tests (SPT) for students enrolled in the Theatrical Stage Combat courses. Last month, the school held its first SPT in Lightsaber. Christopher Plummer, Director of RCC’s Cultural Arts Theatre is a Certified Teacher with the Society of American Fight Directors (SAFD) and held the certification tests along with Patricia Maloney-Titland, Professor in the Department of Visual and Performing Arts. “The SPT certification test is a rigorous demonstration and examination of their new skill sets and each student challenged themselves in new and wonderful ways.” Plummer says. “While the students studied martial techniques associated with longsword, the focus of the course was Lightsaber and it was a huge success!”

RCC, St. Thomas Aquinas say learn here, live there in expansion of partnership program

Westchester & Fairfield Business Journals – Through an expansion to the STAC Tracks program announced Aug. 24 by Rockland Community College and St. Thomas Aquinas College, enrolled students will be able to take advantage of new benefits this fall in addition to being able to easily transfer to STAC from RCC after completing their associate degree.

NursingProcess.org Ranks RCC Nursing Program Number One for Associate’s Degree in Nursing (ADN) of all New York State Nursing Schools

Rockland News – Rockland Community College recently rose from number six to number one out of 76 New York nursing schools for its Associate’s Degree in Nursing program. The ranking was done by NursingProcess.org, a website that compiles nursing education and career information data.

New community class works on vocational life skills for people with special needs

A new pilot program in Rockland County is enriching the lives of people with special needs. Project Elevate is a new community class teaching vocational life skills to people with special needs. The two-week program at Rockland Community College includes courses on fitness, first aid, cooking and cellphones. “It’s a wonderful experience — lots of happy faces. We’re so happy to be here at Rockland County Community College, and we’re looking forward to our session in August,” said Christina Bertocchi, of Project Elevate.

RCC Marketing Team Named Finalist in Global Solutions Sustainability Challenge

Hudson Valley News & Events – Rockland Community College honors class won second place in the Global Solutions Sustainability Challenge where twenty-seven international teams from institutions in the U.S., Iraq and Jordan competed in a competition focused on technology and sustainability.
