River Journal News – Rockland Community College (RCC) has recently joined forces with White Plains-based Today’s Students Tomorrow’s Teachers (TSTT) to help expand the pipeline of students of color to pursue teaching professions. RCC is the first community college to partner with TSTT and all RCC TSTT graduates may be eligible to continue their journey in education and attend one of 23 national and regional college or university partners. TSTT will provide RCC students with academic support, career guidance, workshops, networking opportunities, and teacher placement assistance.

Campus News – Rockland Community College recently received two prestigious recognitions for its Nursing Program. NursingProcess.org, a website that compiles nursing education and career information data, ranked RCC’s program as second out of 153 New York State Board of Nursing approved schools to pursue an associate degree program in nursing. In addition, RegisteredNursing.org, a nursing advocacy organization, released its annual list of the 2020 Best RN programs and ranked the Rockland Community College nursing program sixth out of 101 in New York State.

The Grio – Jean Paul Laurent, a Haitian-born immigrant is featured smiling on a variety of Lay’s flavored chips bags. The new bags are part of a campaign to promote Operation Smile, a nonprofit that provides surgeries for people with cleft lips or palates.
New12 – Colleges are seeing the hurdles students are facing in light of the pandemic and are doing what they can to make admissions more welcoming. Dominican College tells News 12 it typically had credit requirements that needed to be done in high school, but that has since been adjusted.

Patch – Rockland Community College is turning 60. The school, which started back in 1959 in a former home for destitute residents, commemorates its 60th anniversary with a free guided history tour of the main campus Oct. 11.
Lohud – Rockland Community College held its 59th commencement May 23 on its campus in Suffern. H. Carl McCall, chairman of the State University of New York Board of Trustees and former state comptroller, gave the keynote speech.

Lohud – Over the course of my 20 years in higher education, I have had discussions with students and parents, heard speeches from politicians and academics, and read countless editorials, all proclaiming that some students are just not ready for college. I doubt that any of these individuals have considered for a moment that it may be the colleges who are not ready for the students.
