Tutoring Center

The Tutoring Center supports students by helping them to strengthen study skills and better understand content in courses of various subjects. This center has tutors who specialize in Math, Physics, Chemistry, and more.

The Tutoring Center offers virtual appointments and drop-ins through Blackboard Collaborate. There are even study rooms for groups and additional tutoring opportunities available through STAR NY and ThinkingStorm.

STAR-NY is a consortium of SUNY colleges and universities that have joined together to share resources and expertise to better meet student needs for online tutoring.

Sunday through Thursday 7 pm to Midnight (Login until 11:30 PM) June 1 through August 9

  • Writing Any course through Masters level (except foreign language)
  • Math Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Pre-Calculus, Calc I, & Intro to Statistics

How it Works

  • Visit https://www.starny.org/tutoring_schedule  and sign in to the WorldWideWhiteboard®, which is a collaborative tool for online tutoring.
  • Students enter a virtual room to work with a tutor one-on-one.
  • Papers or problems can be loaded into the whiteboard, allowing both the tutor and tutee to write on them.
  • A chat box is used for questions and responses.

To access tutoring, click on the Request a Tutor button and fill out the tutor request form. When you reach the Dashboard page, click on a room opened for your subject to enter the room and work with a tutor.

ThinkingStorm will assist with 24/7 Tutoring. ThinkingStorm’s tool is available within Blackboard. Each student will have a total of 4 hours of tutoring for the semester. Each session will be 30 mins, a total of 8 sessions for the semester.

How to access ThinkingStorm Tutoring on Blackboard:

  • Step 1: Log Into Blackboard
  • Step 2: Click on Content Tab (On the Left)
  • Step 3: Click on the Tools Tab (At the top of the Page)
  • Step 4: Click on ThinkingStorm

Math: Basic Math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, College Algebra, Statistics, Adv. Statistics.
Writing: Writing Center and Live Writing
Science: Biology, Chemistry, Physics

Business: Accounting, Finance, Macroeconomics, Microeconomics
Other Topics: Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, Markup & Programming, Languages, 3D Animation & Modeling

Reading and Writing Center

The Reading and Writing Center (RWC) helps students, faculty, and staff at Rockland Community College to become stronger readers and writers. Anyone may come to the RWC for assistance with reading and writing assignments from any course. The staff of the RWC is also happy to assist with personal reading and writing tasks such as letters, transfer essays, resumes, and creative writing.

The RWC has in-person, online, and eTutoring appointments available.

Science Learning Center

The Science Learning Center (SLC) is designed to support students enrolled in any science or allied health course at RCC. The Center is equipped with models, slides, microscopes, and software. The objective of the SLC is to allow our students time outside of the classroom to review and enhance their understanding of the topics discussed during their lectures and labs. Free Tutoring is also available.

Testing Center

Rockland Community College and the staff of the Testing Center are committed to academic honesty and excellence. The Testing Center provides testing services for students who:

  • Have permission to take a makeup test
  • Require extended time testing accommodation

The Testing Center proctors RCC tests from the first day to the last day of each semester. The Center is closed on days when classes are not in session.
