Approved by the Board of Trustees of SUNY Rockland Community College on April 28, 2025.

A faculty member may assign an Incomplete grade (I) to a student when a student is unable to complete coursework by the end of the semester/part of term due to an extenuating circumstance. The student must have made significant measurable progress in the course and have an overall passing grade for the work completed, as determined by the instructor. This request may or may not be granted at the discretion of the instructor.

  • The “I” grade is changed to a letter grade when the course work has been completed by the student and approved by the instructor
  • The work must be completed by a date specified by the instructor, but no later than the withdrawal date published in the Academic Calendar for the following semester
  • If the work is not completed in the specified time, an incomplete grade (I) automatically changes to a failing grade (F).
