Why Study Human Performance Studies?

With a Human Performance Studies degree, students choose between 3 tracks: Physical Education, Exercise and Sports Science or Sports and Recreation Leadership. The program allows students to transfer to a four-year institution and major in areas such as Exercise Science, Physical Education, Fitness/Wellness, Sports Management, Recreation, and other related fields.

Student Success

At Rockland Community College, you are provided with a Student Success Team that will help you with your academic journey, career exploration, transfer planning, support service referrals, and more! Your Team includes your Dean, Program Director, Faculty Advisor, Student Success Advisor, Connection Center Counselor, Financial Aid Advisor, Peer Mentors, and if you’re involved in any of these special programs, your Athletics, Honors, TRiO, and Veterans Advisors. During your first semester, you will take an ‘Introduction to the School’ course that will outline the various College offices and departments that can help you on your path.

Career Outlook

Students who graduate with a HPS degree may seek employment opportunities in the wellness field working as a fitness trainer/director, community recreation leadership or senior citizen programs.

Internships

Students enrolled in the Fitness Specialist Certificate program will have the opportunity to complete an internship at a fitness facility to in order to receive hands on training and experience. Some of these internship sites include:

  • JCC-Y of Rockland
  • Stony Point Fit Body Boot Camp
