Sterile Processing Technician

About the Sterile Processing Technician Program

The Sterile Processing Career and Technical Certificate (CTC) provides students with an integrated learning experience in knowledge, skills, values, and competencies to meet the workforce needs for sterile processing technicians in acute care and ambulatory hospital settings. The curriculum is based on the standards and recommendations of the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI).

The course covers all the core competency areas including regulations and standards, life sciences, decontamination equipment and practices, high-level disinfection, packaging materials and methods, care, handling, testing and inspection of surgical instruments and devices, sterilization (all methods), processing patient care equipment, and sterile storage and distribution.

Students who successfully complete the curriculum will qualify to sit for the Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) exam.

*Passing the CRCST exam provides students with a provisional license. 400 internship hours of hands-on training are required for full certification.
